A Good Starter Rifle

I took the little lad out shooting with a mate of mine and he fired it now I admit I havnt got a clue when it comes to rifles but now he's begging for one can anyone recomend a good cheap rifle ta tom

£100 crosman raven spring gun then ya need a set of scopes and mounts my nephew has one there a good little gun would be ideal for close up ratting

I have been looking at a rat catcher

They are 'ok' but the co2 will get annoying having to buy refils and only getting an limited number of shots, they also get affected by cold weather

 

Better off getting a springer so the only running costs are the pellets ( & Springers are far superior to co2 )

 

A springer will teach your lad much much more about shooting than any ratcatcher will

Can you suggest any springed rifles to look out for as iv said I'm a dog and ferret bloke to be honest so havnt got a clue I used to go out as a kid

For starting out a BSA meteor will do the trick very nicely or maybe a HW35

About £150 for a new one, the HW would be second hand but they will last forever if looked after

id suggest a gun with an automatic cocking safety for a new shooter. how old is he, a hatsan mod 55s is a good bet although it is a little weighty it has the automatic safety so theres no chance of any mishaps or pulling the trigger whilst the rifle is half cocked causing major rifle damage

He's only young just turning 7 so weight would be an issue got the little lad out of watching cartoons and out ferreting with me and then last week went out with my mate and an old rifle

hatsan probably not the best then, smk do nice light junior rifles i would definitely only be looking at a junior rifle if he is only 7, the smk xs12 is light, compact, cheap and low powered, enough for rats and close range pests
